Welcome to Young Sussex Lawyers!
Firstly, let us introduce the Committee, we are: Kathryn Hulmes (Chair and National YSG representative for Sussex) from Rawlison Butler LLP, James Shead (Deputy Chair and Treasurer) from Mayo Wynne Baxter, Rachel Lemon (National TSG representative) from Rawlison Butler LLP, and Katya Cleere (Social representative) from DMH Stallard.
Young Sussex Lawyers (YSXL) covers the Sussex area and aims to:
1. Provide support to university, GDL and LPC students, Paralegals, Trainee Solicitors and Solicitors (up to 5 years PQE) in the Sussex area;
2. Improve networking among Solicitors in Sussex and in particular ensure Trainees and Newly Qualified Solicitors are kept informed as to TSG and YSG matters;
3. Make a contribution to the education of those pursuing a career in law;
4. Improve awareness of issues relating to the profession;
5. Participate in pro bono activities to connect with the community in which we work.
YSXL was officially launched with drinks in Brighton in January 2007. Subsequent events include a charity quiz to raise money for St. Catherine’s Hospice.
The group intends to continue its work by hosting further events and becoming involved in pro bono initiatives.
YSXL are to host a careers event sponsored by Hays Legal at Thomas Eggar, Belmont House, Station Way, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 1JA on 10 May 2007. An email with full details of the event will be sent out to members shortly.

We are pleased to announce an up-and-coming event with Hays Legal who are sponsoring our NQ Careers talk.
The talk is aimed at trainees who are looking for Newly Qualified positions, and may apply equally to first year and second trainees. The evening will start with drinks and nibbles, followed by short talks from a recruitment agency, a local firm's HR manager and a partner, so you can get advice from and on all aspects of the recruitment process. You will also be able to talk to any of the speakers and ask them questions after the talks.
