TSG Local Group: Cheshire & North Wales

CHESHIRE & NORTH WALES TSG/YSG

Welcome to the local group page for Cheshire & North Wales!

After a quiet few years the group has been re-launched and is back with vengeance! We welcome all law students, Paralegals, Trainee Solicitors and Young Solicitors to join us for the ride!

Please see below for brief information about our group and visit our website www.cnwtsg.co.uk for full details.

A WORD FROM THE CHAIR…

My name is Natalie Meadowcroft and I am a second year Trainee Solicitor in Nantwich, Cheshire. I was proudly elected as your 2006/7 Chair in November 2006 along with the rest of the new and definitely enthusiastic committee!

Our group, like other local groups, follows the work of the National TSG by promoting and protecting the interests of our members.

Cheshire and North Wales is a quite a large area to cover so we have to hunt far and wide to locate new members for our group. I certainly feel that our group strongly values its members given the difficulties we have in finding them! But it’s fair to say that once we have found them, albeit in Crewe or Wales, we retain them.

I’m looking forward to an excellent year with the group. Don’t forget, it’s your group so please get involved and let us have your input!

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

Throughout the year  District Judge Shadowing Scheme

We have set up a District Judge Shadowing Scheme which allows our members to attend either the Chester Civil Justice Centre or Wrexham County Court for a day to shadow a District Judge for a period of time, usually one day. This enables members to experience a day in the life of a District Judge and find out what goes on behind the scenes!

If you would like to participate in the Scheme, please contact our Chair via the given e-mail address for more information.

We anticipate that the Scheme will be extremely beneficial to our members and we hope that many of you will take part.

March 2007 College of Law careers drop-in night

On a date soon to be announced our group will be holding this event at The College of Law in Chester.

The event is open to all College students who would like to meet our committee and gain advice about CVs, applying for training contracts and life as a Trainee Solicitor.

We don’t profess to be recruitment experts but we definitely know a bit about the difficulties of obtaining a training contract.

Just drop in either by yourself or with your class colleagues for as long as you like to have an informal chat with our committee.

More details will follow but in the meantime, please contact our Chair via the given e-mail address for more information or to register your interest.

01 March 2007   Legal Sector Quiz in Aid of Shelter

This event will take place at 18:30 (19:00 start) at The Cross Keys Inn, Bridge Street, Chester.

We are once again joining the National TSG/YSG in supporting this annual event. Shelter is a housing and homelessness charity which helps many people find homes. It needs our support to be able to continue its vital work.

Team registration forms and full information will be distributed shortly.

Let’s try to make this event an even greater success than last year’s Quiz. It is not a specialist legal quiz so please invite friends, family and clients!

Champagne for the winning team and great raffle prizes to be announced!

Please contact our Social Secretary via the given e-mail address for more information.

RECENT EVENTS
05 December 2006  Christmas Pub Quiz

This event kicked off the TSG/YSG year (again, slightly late!) which was held at The Bridge Inn in Chester.

Attendance was high and was made up of a great mixture of College of Law students, Trainee Solicitors and even a few College of Law lecturers (who let them in?!).

Not surprisingly given the title of the Quiz, questions were split into 6 rounds containing questions all about…you got it…Christmas! (If anyone says that the Christmas theme got a little annoying by round 3 then they are fibbing!)

The winning team, imaginatively entitled “Table 2”, took home the cash prize pot. Bottles of wine were awarded as second and third prizes which went to “LO9” and “Lost” respectively.

The Quiz was a fantastic event to set precedent for the year to come.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership of our group is on a fairly informal basis and we do not charge a membership fee.

If you wish to enquire further about our group or sign up to our mailing list, please e-mail our Chair via the e-mail address above.

ONE LAST WORD FROM THE CHAIR…

I hope that after reading through our page you can’t wait to join our group. If not, visit our website and we will try again to convince you that you must join us!

It looks set to be a great year for our group; the committee and I hope that you will join us.
